About
HHI-EMD is the engine and machinery business unit of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, based at the Ulsan shipyard in South Korea. It built its first low-speed marine engine in 1979.
Milestones on its own timeline include the 10,000th HiMSEN engine in 2016, the 5,000th marine propeller in 2017, the first LPG dual-fuel engine test in 2020, the first ME-GA factory test in 2022 and 200 million brake horsepower of two-stroke engine production in March 2023.
The unit says it is the largest builder of marine and stationary engines and is concentrating on decarbonisation technology, with engines for LNG, methanol and ammonia.
