R&D Marine was founded in 1973 after years of development work on a flexible shaft coupling for marine use, starting out in a single garage. In 1976 the company moved to its current site, Meadow Works in Baldock, Hertfordshire, UK.
The premises have since been renovated into 8,000 square feet of factory space equipped with CNC machines. The product range grew from customer requests: anti-vibration mountings and damper drive plates followed the first couplings, and by 1976 the lineup covered couplings, mountings, damper drive plates and half couplings for engines from 5 HP to 800 HP.
The company trades as R&D Marine Ltd and sells through a network of distributors. It describes customer feedback as the basis of its product development.
