As an energy-saving device, Promas replaces a separate propeller and rudder with one optimised unit. The hub cap blends into a bulb on the twisted rudder, which reduces hub vortex and drag. Kongsberg quotes 3–8% efficiency improvement on single-screw and 2–6% on multi-screw vessels, and it can be fitted to newbuilds or as a retrofit.
